There is definately a problem with power on your H. The trick is to wind it up full throttle in 4th, push in the clutch and pull the shifter modestly (not forcefully into 5th. There will be a mild gnashing of teeth, but no major grief. %th gear is narrower than all the rest, and cannot stand forcefull rakeing of teeth. I have operated H, SH, M, 350, 400, and SCs for 45 years (I'm 56) and they still have the original trans W/O any down time. The machines are tough. If yours is not able to pull 5th smartly up a 15% slope pulling nothing, it is very anemic and needs to be tuned timed and have the carb adjusted.
