The triangle fill plate next to the shifter probably does need a new gasket. I'll probably do that now that you mention it. But the shifter seems to be getting hydraulic fluid coming out of the base. Its seeping up the stick a couple of inches. The rear end has the right amount of fluid it but wouldn't the gears turning cause that fluid to slosh around enough to find it's way out through the gear shifter? I figured there was an o-ring or felt washer in there somehow. I wondered if anyone had ever changed it out and how to get the shifter off. I noticed there is a dowel pin holding the lever to the base but I don't want to get it stuck in a gear or mess it up by taking it off. I figured somebody must have had one off before or it might be similar to an M shifter. Thanks for the response.
