William The rubber washer should be in a steel cup. First put rubber washer and cup on screw with cup at head of screw then the drive ring or plate then the other rubber washer and cup, rubber first against the drive plate then through the dog ear on clutch or tranny drive so you have rubber to the drive plate both sides. Which ever you do first clutch or tranny is ok, you will see that the screw is tappered to tighten in to the dog ear tight. Hope this helps. This just makes some what of a u joint for a little give.
