In addition to that info, some ute's had a dual bulb rear light with a switch on it. the positions were off, clear, and red. The knob was black and had about 6 bumps around it for grip. The rear light was full on when ever the dash light switch was on (either dim, or bright). I agree the dim resistor may have been toasted at some point. Pull off the dash sub panel and look at it.
