Yes. On the M you can take off the cover on the distributor side of the block and stuff a rag on top of the lifters. I also stuff rags and paper towels in the cylinders to keep dust and dirt off the crank. Then I vacuum or blow off the top of the rags before removing them. You can also hang a rag or paper towel over the crankshaft journals. I make every effort to prevent anything from touching the crank. Cleanliness is essential for good engine rebuilds. The only things you want in a rebuilt engine are the parts and oil.
