Randy, Your "H", had it had lights and starter from the factory, would have had a batter box. If lights and starter were added later, as many of that year were, it is possible that a battery box was not included. Battery boxes would eventually rust and that also could mean that the next battery ended up on a tray rather than in a box. As factory equipment though, having a battery meant a box and lid was installed. They never, to my knowledge, left the factory with a battery on a tray.
