Jim: If you look at a removed seal and most generally the IPB for the tractor will show the part number for a seal with a "D" following the number. the "D" indicates double. The old leather seals while doing an excellant job of sealing did it with two seals stacked.
When I take a seal PN with a "D" to NAPA I get a box with two seals and instructions on how to place the seals in relation to each other. taking the same PN to my local Case/IH dealer I get one thin seal costing more than the NAPA two. I discovered this while I was trying to find a PTO seal for my H, the seal from IH looked so puny that I decided to try to do better. I took the same PN to NAPA and came away happy. I have since replaced all seals in the rear of my Super A, same deal.
