If you gapped the points correctly, it is not likely the timing. I suspect one of the insulators in the point spring mount, or condenser wire is installed incorrectly grounding the points. Put a folded dollar bill corner between the point contacts. Turn on the ign. Use a test light to test for voltage at the movable point, if none, it is grounded as indicated above. If voltage, wiping the points with the dollar will clean out non-conductive material. Good luck, JimN
