You probably had corrosion within the tight terminal. The next time this happens, take all the connections off and clean them to bright metal and it will probably start right up. They do not have to be loose to get a film of corrosion inside. If your jumper cable clamp was crossing from teh post to the battery cable end it may have provided the only path and heated the cable end and post. I ruined a charger clamp that way one time. Had the battery on charge and melted the clamp trying to start as the only path from the post to the cable was through the charger clamp. Removing the cables on something which sits for long periods of time helps.
