NOPE, it wont work as you described it. In order to charge the battery without actually getting to its posts, you would have to hook the chargers Positive to frame ground as you say buttttttttttttttt you would have to hook the Negative to the battery (NOT starter motor) side of the starter switch or solenoid to be connected up with the battery. The starter post itself or the starter side of a starter switch or solenoid is ONLY connected up to the battery when starting i.e. the switch or solenoid is closed. Connecting to frame ground and the starter motor post (or starter side of switch/solenoid) will try n turn the starter and be an extreme low impedance load on the charger. Hook to frame ground and the battery side of a starter switch or solenoid if you wanna charge the battery. John T
