Canada to USA Border Crossing

Can someone please explain the procedure and what all is necessary to bring a used tractor or used farm equipment from Canada to the USA if it has been sold by a Canadian individual to a USA individual? I have been told individual sales are treated different from dealer sales and have less requirements to cross but don't know what these requirements are. Thanks, Harold H
