I ended up going with a new intake manifold in conjunction with the needed exhaust manifold. I spent about an hour trying to figure out how to install the new weight, spring and manifold heat control valve. Everything just seemed backwards to me and I finally gave up. Since the tractor will rarely have to do much starting in cold weather I found some steel that was very close to the thickness of the gasket between the intake/exhaust and blocked it off. Starts just fine at 80 degrees. I don't know what it will do at 20 degrees which is about as cold as it ever gets here.
