Well, not really, but I was only gonna re-ring Grandpa's "A", and not much more. I began reading this site, and looking at the pictures of some of the re-births of the old Farmalls, and just had to go whole hog!
All re-work, paint, etc is now done, and we will play with it with the family this Thanksgiving day.
She is a '46 "double A" as grand dad used to call her. He bought her arond 1958, and I have a treasured photo of myself at 1 1/2-2 years old while sitting on it! I always meant to take a picture of my son doing the same, at the same age, but waited too late. I'll get it now at 13 years!
Back to the wife. Some women might fuss to see the cash outlay to fix these tractors up "just to keep", but not mine! She has really bragged how nice it looks. I had to buy a new rear tire due to rot (and a loud blow-out) and when I had put it on and it looked so much better than the other (which holds air, and is perfectly fine) she told me, "you need to go ahead and get another tire, it will look much nicer!" Been together 28 years, I think I'll keep her!
Anyway, it's nice to preserve a piece of old and family history. Grandpa's gone, Dad was gonna "fix up" the old Farmall, but he's also gone. This one now has a grille, and hood on it which probably haven't been on it in 25-30 years. Lots of hammer welding on rear fenders, tried to keep the old Marvel carb, but wound up using a Carter. Has the "Monroe" seat that I sat on 50 years ago, so it stays. I did convert to 12v - ground with a switched alternator, and added lights (the "H" type, and just a red tail light).
It has really been fun, and all the kids love to drive it. Next project, hot and heavy I need to complete is Dad's "A". It is a 1930 Ford Coupe that has been a family heirloom since 1975!
Anyway, I'm glad to have found this site and the tarctor experience many of you guys bring. Also, I bought a few things from the site and was well pleased.
