Glennster is correct, the light switch in conjunction with the operator is the "voltasge regulator" If the charging system is working, and you are regulating the charge with H and L on the switch, there is no problem. If you want to make it more regulated and automatic, or it is not charging, there are many well worded contributions from John T, Bob M, auself, and others that address the why.
