Getting near the end of my SMTA resto. Steering pedestal, shafts, lightbar, lights, governor lever, and steering wheel installed last night. This is the second wheel I have installed as I am also finishing an H.
Both of the wheels were new repros. And both were a bear to get on the shaft. Of course I had them both painted red. They are just too small inside diameter. They start on OK then get increasingly tighter. By the time you figure this out it's too late to get it off without ruining the paint. You have to get a deep socket, bfh, and ruin the paint in the process. NEXT TIME, I will test fit prior to painting.Ream/hone that wheel out so it slides on with moderate pressure. The keyway will keep it from turning.I just pray I don't ever have to try and get those two steering wheels off these tractors.
Just a tip to you all who are going to install new wheels.
