You may get lucky and get it to seal for a while but it will leak eventually,soonr than if you get the gasket.BTDT.I had a M that I did that on and Ive seen other people do it and theirs started to leak as well.Besides it doesnt really cost that much and while youve got it out check the shifter forks and make sure all thats ok.My Two Cents.
