These little six cyl engines all evolved from the motor truck division when farm equipment div used the forms from the Fort Wayne ,Ind truck plant. They still used the basic motor truck engine BD (black diamond) on the combines for a while then switched to the C series from tractors. All gas engines in combines were sleeve less.If u look under the hood of an old 50's pickup or small truck you will see the same block as the tractors. I was working on trucks also when the 560's were introduced and I thought dam, they put a truck engine in a tractor. But it worked out ok, with of course a lot of modifications as they went along.
