What a Lucky husband you have! Imagine buying a tractor for your husband. The dead bang biggest give away to a SMTA is in fact the Torque Amplifier lever on the left side of the tractor. While sitting in the seat of the tractor the TA handle will be just outboard of your left knee. It is about 30" tall and is connected, via a series of push rods, to the clutch and the transmision. There are other things to look for but because IHC would add or subtract items, such as live power take off, I guess the only sure thing is the TA itself. Incidently when you are trying to buy a SMTA there are two kinds of TA's: "I just put 7 billzillion $ in the overhaul of the TA" and "The TA's a little weak" which is IHC collector code for SHOT. The very best of luck in your search.
