This sounds like a classic example of a worn out MCV(power steering) hydraulic pump. If the TA downshifts when brakes are activated, that pump is not supplying enough oil to keep the TA engaged & supply the brakes as well. What is happening is that your TA is losing oil pressure & the mechanical sprag clutch on the low(TA) side is what is driving the tractor when brakes are applied. When the brakes are released there is enough oil to satisfy the TA assy. This is also indicated by your road gear description. Also when the oil heats up, the more a weak MCV pump will show up. Does the Lo transmission pressure light work?(Should be on the RH panel by the key switch, it should come on everytime you step on the clutch). If so, I would imagine it would be on about all the time. Get the pump tested & more than likely replaced before you tear up your TA & then you will have big$$$ in repairs. Hope this helps.
