I am having the same problem with my Super MTA, except I have no coolant leakage anywhere. Same dying, spitting under load. Choking engine a bit seems to help but does not resolve the problem. Plugs also have carbon soot on them. I have replaced the points, condenser, plugs, rebuilt carb and air checked all passages. Mixture and air bleed have little effect on the problem. Timing has been set correctly. My compression is 110-105 psi in all cylinders. I believe that the problem is a vacuum leak somewhere. Most likely the intake/exhaust manifold gasket. You should check this along with your manifold to carb gasket for leaks. I plan on replacing my manifold gasket this week. I will let you know how it goes.
