clutch proublems

i have a 53 cub and the clutch petal is hard to press and when it is pressed down it is sticking. the only way i can get it to come up is with my foot. it was working fine about a week ago when i mowed my 2 acres. please help!! i have to mow or my grass is going to kill my cub!! thanks
