So far, I seem to be batting a thousand!! That is, everytime I buy a 'new' (to me, that is) tractor, I find the trans. oil is muddy brown. This was on 2 F-12s and 2 M's... Yikes! Luckily, they were built WAY over-engineered! I usually drive them around to loosen them up, then drain them out (don't forget all the plugs and pulley as Red and others suggest). I drain overnight, to get as much out as I can. Then I use kerosene (diesel would be okay too -- I like the kero because I can tell how "clean" it is by looking at the color) to fill up as if it were trans fluid. Then drive around (never under load, very fast, or putting any real stress on the gears, etc.) to again loosen things up. Drain that out (overnight!) and the next morning, button 'er back up and fill with the real thing. If I had a lot of storage (and money!) I'd do a third repeat, using the real trans fluid so that I was sure that all of the kero was gone. So far, I have not had any problems... Good luck! Don
