I have a 656 farmall standard shift. I use it for plowing, working ground, and planting 17 acres. While planting this year, a dowel pin fell out of the upper cross shaft (the shaft that the gear shift lever moves to shift gears) which made it incapable of shifting gears. I have disassembled the gear shift lever and this shaft. I can put it all back together, but it seems like the dowel pin could fall back out again. There doesn"t appear to be any wear on the dowel pin, but it is a slip fit in the shaft. Does anyone know if this pin is supposed to fit loose in the shaft or is it supposed to be a press fit or should it be lock-tited in? The service manual mentions driving this pin out for disassembly, but on my tractor is just slips out. Does anyone know how to keep this pin from falling out?
