I would pay less for one too. If you have no need for the extra gears it wouldn't be that big a deal. I use the TA on mine plowing and sure made life easier. Without it, there are many times you would have had to stop and downshift to get through a patch of hard ground, and then shift and start again, PITA. Or lift the plow, which wouldn't do the job you wanted to have done. With the TA, ya just pull the handle, make the 20' of hard ground, then kick it forward again. Real handy feature.
MTA's aren't so rare that I would get one that didn't have the things on it I wanted. I looked for one for two years before I found the one I bought. And they ARE tough to come by here on the west coast. The live PTO is nice, but otherwise you may as well just have a SM.
