Jr/Westpa said: (quoted from post at 23:10:28 06/15/10) Generally, I use 30 weight non-detergent oil in these tractors in the summer and 10 wt non-detergent in the winter. Can I switch to the 15-40 rotella for all round usage without harming the engines? It's about time for an oil change, so any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I have used Rotella Synthetic 5W-40 in my 1940 model H ever since I got it four years ago. Never a problem. I even added a quart of automatic tranny fluid to dissolve the gunky buildup inside the engine, then I just ran it for about a year and changed the oil and filter. Filter and oil was nasty, but I pulled the valve cover and the top of the engine was nearly spotless, so I pulled the oil pan and it was a little bit dirtier, but not much. Cleaned them both, scrapped off what I could reach and did it again. Next years oil change and inspection revealed the top of the engine was absolutely spotless, and when I had the front cover off to change the cam last week, (a lobe was worn off when I first bought the tractor), it was super clean as well. I also use the same oil in my all vehicles, the car, the trucks and the 4x4 that sits most of the time before I take it out and beat on it in the boonies for a weekend. Never had an oil related problem in anything I've used it in. Prior to using it though, I used the Rotella T 15-40 in everything, and never had a problem with it either.

Today's Featured Article - The 8N and the Fox - by Zane Sherman. Dec. 13 1998, Renfroe, Alabama. Last niht I dreamed about the day that I plowed the field of about 10 acres over on what Jimmy and Dandy called the Ledbetter field. I was driving the 1948 8N Ford tractor that Jimmy bought in 48 new This was prebably in about 1951 and maybe even befor the house was built. This would have made me to be about16 years old and I drove the tractor for nothing and would have paid to drive it if I had had any money which I didn't, but neit ... [Read Article]
