Hey Red - a clarification: The primary connections on the coil are the two low voltage (the + and -) terminals. The two secondary connections are the high voltage output nipple, and the outer steel can that encloses the coil. When wiring up a coil primary, the + and - terminals should be connected to like polarities the electrical system. I.e. if the system is negative ground, the coil + should be fed from the battery +. Conversely a positive grounded system should have the coil - fed from the battery -. So much for how it should be done... As a practical matter, the coil will work fine wired up either polarity (I've run 'em successfully both ways for 25+ years). My understanding is only when you need absolute maximum ignition performance (eg very high RPM on a high compression engine) does coil polarity become significant - somehow impacts arc voltage and spark plug electrode erosion I recall. Naturally this is not an issue for 4 cylinder Farmall motors governed to 1,575 RPM! Bottom line: Wire the coil up either way - it'll work fine! Bob
