Looks to me like the ball shank is peined over with a large drop hammer from the forge room at IH. Probably done while hot. It is recessed so it will be hard to grind out the deformed metal. But I am guessing that the original ball with shank has already been removed and replaced with a bolt.
Parts book lists the ball with shank as one item and the wishbone with ball as another item. I am thinking that one or the other is available as new aftermarket. See if Mike at Steel Wheel Ranch can get those parts. In any event, he will tell you the best way to repair your problem. Might be able to source either part from IH.
Never replaced the bushing but it seems like one would jack up tractor to relieve the weight on pivot. Then you would drive out the bushing and pin. There should be a cross bolt to retain the pin.
Don't know how a service rep or farmer could install just the ball unless the replacement ball stud has threads and a nut.
