I just helped a friend get an old Ford pickup running better. It turns out that you need to get that coil voltage up closer to 7 volts with tractor running in order to get a good hot spark. Also, be sure that your points are very clean so that the contact closure is very crisp. If there is oil or some other debrise in the point contacts, it is impossible to get a good hot spark
