So I tore into the left final drive on the "A" today after removing the pan and finding almost tar in it. I decided I would replace the axle seal while I was at it. Man, is that a pain on this sucker. The actual work that should be involved in it is not bad but the gear that is attached to the axle shaft was darn near froze on. Ruined the retaining bolt trying to get the shaft out (took the dot off the top and deformed the top enough that you can't use a socket, need to take a wrench on selective sides).
The outside bearing is the same way. Before I ruine the outside cover plate trying to get this bearing off I just want to see if the number on the bearing is universal. It says 1210 on the bearing. If that is universal I think I will try to cut the bearing off (even though it rolls nice and smooth) in order to save the cover plate. Is the number universal?
