George: With out a doubt the MANUAL is right. Go back to gas for a short spell and then the kill switch and when stopped return the "run on gas" lever to off. So ya end up with switch off, gas off and diesel off. Its very important to also let the engine run a while to cool down after hot\heavy work to prevent cracking the head. Cracked heads was a bit of a problem with people who did NOT follow the manual. Hope yours is still OK.. Its a great engine. I grew up sitting behind a MD and SMD 4 cylinder diesels. Enjoy using it. harvey
