I would start with the gas. If it has been sitting for a long time, the gas is bad. drain the tank and put some fresh gas in. If you don't rebuild the carb. at least take the valves out and clean it with carb cleaner. Most of the time that my cub would not start was because of the carb. There is a 7/16 nut on the bottom rear of the carb. Take that out and remove the needle valve that is in there. Spray some carb cleaner in the hole and put it back together. YOu can check the spark by removing a plug and laying it on the block and crank the engine over with the ignition on. If you have a spark on the plug then it is the carb.
