That would be a W-6 or I-6, not an M. I can't tell which though. If it had a pintle hitch, would likely be an I-6 but there appears to be an additional hitch or mount of some sort on the tractor. X1 is the code for gasoline engine. Should be a 1947 model based on the serial number you gave.
The I-6, W-6 and M were based on the same engine. The M looked completely different from the other two, it was a row crop tractor. Looks taller with adjustable rear wheels and usually a narrow front or an adjustable wide front. The I and W versions had the non-adjustable wide front like yours has and where the operator sits was lower on the tractor. Yours has an aftermarket cab on it.
Look at the serial number plate on the left side of the clutch housing where the serial number came from. It should also be stamped I-6 or W-6 I believe. The I-6 or industrial version was usually painted yellow but could be any color also. It appears to have a nice recent coat of paint. Could be a W-6 also, just painted yellow. Nice unit at any rate.
Good for you for getting ready to sell some of your husbands treasures. Sorry for your loss. I hope it goes to someone who will take care of it like your husband did and the tractor lives on to give another person joy of operating it.
