The M rear end would be marginal for that big an engine (assuming you would be wanting to push it to anywhere near capacity). If I'm not mistaken, the original 460s had a rear end very similar to the M. It proved inadequate, was a PR disaster, and IH spent $$$ and lost its lead in market share to the Green Machines - which IH never recovered. If you are not planning on pulling big loads for long periods of time, the 460 engine may be OK. If I remember correctly, where they mainly ran into problems with the 460 was with sideways-types of forces (traditional plowing, in particular). Trying to pull a 5-bottom plow with this hybrid tractor would probably be a bad idea.
