Myself i started out working for a construction co. It was mowing the grass and cleaning the office and shop and as i got a little older i became the gofer then the helper then one guy started to tech me how to run the equipment on Saturdays Then i was able to go out on local jobs and do what ever was asked of me . I remember on one job we were putting in new streets with water sewer and gas line and the owner came out to the job site the first day as we had some new guys starting and they were laboring . They were to work on the water ling and we were using something new and it had to be premium back fill , The owner handed the four new guys four new shovels and left . At the end of the day he came back and asked to see the new shovels , two had the paper wore off the blade the other two did not he told the two slackers that he would not need them the next day . The next day we had two new guys of them one stayed and the same for the next day and we got one from two We had the four labors we needed that would work . It is hard to find people that will earn there pay .
