Personally, I think you have plenty of tractors already to farm 30-40 acres with. My gosh, my father in law farmed 400 acres with just a 4020. As far as combines, I would have to say I would start off with the IH 815. A good cheap combine to start with. We use an older model 4 row JD planter for both corn and soybeans. We row crop about 20 acres for cattle feed. Remember, you need to keep your debt as low as you can and try to reinvest and grow slowly.
My personal advice is if you want to have any money or are seeking a way to increase your savings....DON'T FARM!!!!!!! There are much better ways to increase your portfolio. But, I understand if you want to do it for a hobby. Just try to keep minimum debt.
