Something like that happened with a new neighbor a couple years ago.... You can't build anything new within 10ft of the property line but almost everything was built on the line (even buildings touching each other and grandfathered in.... Old neighbor told the new guy how much better the roof on a shed (leanto with the old neighbor's house as a back) would look with tin and he'd help him do it. Got the old roof off and the beams had worm damage. old guy said, won't cost ya any more to just tear it down and start over.... THEY tore it all down and cleaned it up ready to start. New guy went to the sawmill and the old one went to the phone. Next day wood got delivered in the morning and about noontime couple guys from the building /property management office telling the new guy he couldn't rebuild, he could only fix what was there. Too late and the old neighbor just smiled and pointed out places on his stucco that would have to be fixed.........
