Does your book say "one and a half quarts"(1.5 quarts) or "one half quart" (1/2 quart or 1 pint)?
My 1950 JD model A operators manual (The model A is the immediate predecessor to the model 60) calls for 1 pint of motor oil to be added after draining the First Reduction Cover so I simply use engine oil.
