Let me guess, they squirt it directly into the combustion chamber and the piston crown is not flat, or beveled for hemispherical combustion chambers, but convoluted so that you have a cup for the explosion to occur. I assume that the fuel flow is still cross flow, in the intake valve, across the piston, and out the exhaust 180 degrees away.
