The guy makes some valid points in theory, but I haven't seen it pan out in real life.
I'll also note we are talking about a farm tractor with just two batteries.
I've worked on many large battery banks. Some with eight 6 volt batteries wired in series for 48 volts.
I've worked on large battery banks with the same brand and make 12 volt batteries all in parallel making 12 volts.
My home and workshop are powered by a huge bank of batteries wired series-parallel to make 48 volts.
Over the 20 years I've been working on large battery banks using Trojan or Rolls-Surette batteries . . . the average battery life has been the same for all the setups I know of.
I'll add that some of the longest lived lead-acid battery banks known to mankind are made of single-cell batteries hooked in series. Large 2.1 volt single cell batteries often wired in series to make 48 or 60 volts for remote telecom usage. They often last 20 years. But to be fair, they are expensive high-end batteries so longevity is mostly due to quality - not how they are wired.
