Sad part was he was driving a VW van and a total of 9 died. Convoy speeds in those days was 25 with tracked vehicles and they figure that he was going over 60.

Pretty rough... Right at Bamberg. They had just switched autobahns and was lining out on the Nurnberg stretch (heading to graf from Schweinfurt). Don't know the details but they were moving along and the truck hit them hard enough to catch the last 3 vehicles..
