Old lady in town that always brings bread to the horses that we may have on a pasture close to her house and always speaks and waves ansd genuinely asks how you are etc.... She lives right next to the cemetery and always opens the gates and sets up the little sign in stand up... Hadn't seen her in a few weeks and the wife was reading in the paper & asked if I knew a name in an obituary... Age was right (96) and I figured that's why I hadn't seen her.
Thought a lot of her so took off a couple hours to go to the funeral today.
Got to the cemetery early and waited on the crowd to walk up from the church and was wondering who'd set up the sign in stuff..... Was walking over to where it would be set up and there is my old friend getting everything ready for the crowd.... Guess the shock was obvious and she was sharp enough to know it right away...
Guess back then folks weren't real creative with first names
She just laughed and said there were already two with her name buried there and there was 1 more after this one besides her.. And she'd let me know when she was gonna go.... We had a good laugh and I stuck around anyway....
wife 'bout pissed her pants when I called and told her.....
