lawn mowers

Posted by cbbc on August 26, 2012 at 18:49:09 from (96.54.255.80):

Im looking at picking up an additional mower. I currently have a JD L110 with a 42" cut and a Kohler 17.5 hp engine. It has been fairly good but it is getting worn out - had to weld the deck several times, steering is getting worn/ loose, cracked plastic, worn tires never holding air etc....
I mow about an acre of lawn ( 1 to two times a week), and a few acres of trees ( once every three weeks). The size and speed of the mower is fine - it could be a bit bigger but not much larger.

Home Depot is clearing out their mowers remaining. They have a Cub Caddet LTX 1045 with a 46" deck and a 20 hp Kohler on for about $1900. They also have a JD D140 with a 48"cut and a 22hp Briggs (I think) $2000.

For the same cut size 42" the Cub LTX 1040 and the Aries mower is $1600.

I think I would like the slightly larger mower width. I really like the Kohler engines compared to the Briggs, but not sure about the rest of the Cub Caddet.

Anybody have experiance with these machines and what do you think of them.

I will keep the old one to mow the roughest parts of the christmas tree field. I realize these are not "real tractors" but they get the job done, and I have enough big equipment to get everything else done.

Thanks in advance, Grant

Today's Featured Article - Gatherin of the Orange - by Rick Nikolich. In July of 1998 I was talking to fellow Allis Chalmers collector Mike Schilling about the annual "Gathering of The Orange" AC show coming up in August of 1999. He got this wild idea that we should get a convoy of AC tractors and drive them from Charlotte, Michigan 105 miles to LaGrange, Indiana. ... [Read Article]
