I can't think of a small town anywhere around here that isn't exactly the same? Springfield and Winthrop moved out of down down, needed more space so had to uproot around me. But that is just a common, typical setup, everywhere.
The town decided, as so many do, to use the infrastructure the business built - road, electric, gas servic, etc. and built the town closer and closer to the grain and fert plant. The entire north end of town was built up long after the fert plant was there.
Now you come along and want to blame the farm business, and they should be forced to relocate on their dime, because the town took over the assets the farm place built up.
Fertilizer is very stable product, takes a very very odd set of things to happen, very rare, for it to explode. This is not something one plans for as a regular happening. Millions of tons of fert are shipped, stored, and handled all across the country, not a big deal.
Your natural gas line or lp tank is a much much bigger threat statistically.
Next time you go to the grocery, box, or supply store, look at the isles of fertilizer. You have a problem with them, or just farm businesses?
I find the original cartoon distasteful, by someone with an agenda and not thinking.
Your comments on a rural type forum by someone probably should be some familiar with agriculture and rural areas to be worse.
