2 out of state friends called saying they were passing through the area and would like to stop for a visit. I was most happy to see them again after years of just phone calls. These are old hunting buddies, real outdoor types, mountains, birds, big game, dogs, pack horses....etc.

I gave both of them directions and the simple address, go 4 miles from the interstate exit, turn right on a state road #XXX, 2 miles...mailbox..street XXXX. See you shortly... address..simple.

Guy #1...calls...I am at xyx road, how do I get there...Me..you have gone 8 miles too far turn around and come back.. turn on ..abc road go to the big black mail box. No luck... I finally had to go out to the main road and flag him down.

Guy #2...next day. Gave him directions...4 miles ect etc. 45 minutes later. I called, where are you?
He had driven 20 miles in a circle following a bbbeeeep on an Iphone. He had been within a mile and had turned and circled. I went out and got him 3 miles away.

Folks, I live on a well marked state highway. My mailbox is esily visible and prominent. I can give people without an Iphone directions and they will drive right to my door.

These friends are (were) outdoorsmen that I would trust in the Canadian wilderness to get me out. Now they get lost in a neighborhood because they have forsaken their brain for an Iphone computer map.

What gives?

Today's Featured Article - Gatherin of the Orange - by Rick Nikolich. In July of 1998 I was talking to fellow Allis Chalmers collector Mike Schilling about the annual "Gathering of The Orange" AC show coming up in August of 1999. He got this wild idea that we should get a convoy of AC tractors and drive them from Charlotte, Michigan 105 miles to LaGrange, Indiana. ... [Read Article]
