From Central Canada: When I lived 'up north' I would leave a tap or two trickle water so as the pump would come on every half hour or so. The pump sucked the water from a river about 300 feet to my trailer, and then the pump and tank were right inside, so the freezing concern was the suction line. It was 1 inch plastic line a couple of feet below the ground. Worked for me. Some guys not so lucky and if the suction line froze, they were pretty much screwed 'till spring. I put a heating element right inside the plastic pipe eventually. A Pyrotennex product if memory serves. That was excellent, except in the morning ALL the water was hot until we used about 20 gal or so 'cause the suction had been heated all night. I still let the taps trickle on the exceptionally cold nights.
