If the condenser is shorted there will be current thru the coil with the points open. If the coil has an external resistor the coil voltage will be about 6 volts with the points closed or the condenser shorted, and 12 volts with the points open/good condenser.
If it is a 12V coil with an internal resistor then removing the + wire from the coil will give a spark if the points are closed or the condenser shorted. No spark with the points open and good condenser.
