I find most of the the responses(below) to the Remington expansion fascinating stuff. Remington has been searching for quite some time for a new facility and have looked at locations in 24 states. It would appear that the search commenced before the SAFE act in NY was passes...but that little tidbit doesn't quite fit the narrative, so it's discarded. The eastern part of upstate NY is growing quite well theses days..and will continue to do so with or without new Remington jobs... nanotechnology research for one and Global Foundries (pouring billions into new construction. High technology companies moving out of southern states like Texas and into the Capital Region of New York State. WHY? you ask... it's not about guns or non-union shops.. it's about where the smarts are and to paraphrase one of the executives who moved from Texas.. "it's about schools for my children and quality of life issues"... So guns and perceived 2nd amendment rights may be important to some people, but thankfully, in the final analysis, reason does prevail in a collective sense. I wouldn't be surprised to find in a few years, Remington performing just the machining for their firearms in Ilion NY ... and doing assembly, warehousing, distribution in the south with less costly/sophisticated labor.
