Got the JD 420 and wood splitter into a spot where it wasn't going to get out without help. Nobody else around, so my 13 year old grandson got the nod. He's never done any towing before and hasn't had all that much experience driving tractors in the first place. Was a bit nervous with visons of busted chains whizzing by my head. Or the wood splitter getting beat up on the rocks. The majority of his experience has been with my OC-4 dozer and that has a very smooth clutch (plus it was there) so that's what we used. Went as far as I could without help (not far with the 28 inch wheels on that 420) and Zane hooked on. He eased the chain snug without so much as a bump and then we eased the clutches out and never spun a wheel or a track. Pulled me through just as smooth as silk, like he'd been doing it for years. The wood splitter picked up about 200 pounds of mud in the process, but no damage.
