Remember I made some parts for Jeff's NH hay elevator? Well, that part is working fine. However, the drive sprocket on the mow conveyor wore out. Had hay to unload NOW, of course, so i went to the Case IH guys to pick up a new one. Planned on buying two and throw one on the shelf for a spare. Price; $171 !!!!!!! Guess I won't buy two. The company salesman just happened to be at our place when i got back delivering Jeff's skid steer. He said that there is not much demand for the elevator parts anymore, thus low volume/high price. Since the sprocket uses 2040 link chain, he sugestted having a machinist weld a regular # 40 sprocket on the collar. The 2040 chain would just use every other tooth. Got two of the collars with worn out sprockets. Gonna make a trip to the local machinist in the next few days and drop poff one of them with the new one as a pattern and see what kinda price he quotes me.
Gonna do a little snooping around for other sources for the sprocket, too.
