French is rarely heard in Toronto unless you call a government office. On the street is English , Chinese and some Middle East languages.
As for saving Canada's bacon during WWII. You had better go back and read some stats instead of watching American made movies for your info.
You may not know it but Canada and England are not joined land masses.
